NAS Data Recovery

Network-attached storage devices hold the shared files of countless small businesses and homes – and they are often the only copy. When a NAS stops responding, reports a crashed volume, or loses drives from its RAID, we can recover the data from its disks.

Most NAS units run Linux with software RAID (mdadm), LVM and a Btrfs, ext4 or ZFS file system. We rebuild all of these from images of the disks, so the original drives are never modified.

Common NAS Problems

  • “Volume crashed”, “Storage pool degraded” or “RAID group not active” warnings
  • Two or more drives failed, or drives dropped out during a rebuild
  • NAS not booting, no web interface, or constant beeping
  • Firmware update gone wrong
  • Ransomware encrypting shares (for example Qlocker, DeadBolt and eCh0raix attacks on NAS devices)
  • Accidentally deleted shared folders or reset NAS

Before You Do Anything

If your array has failed: do not force a rebuild, re-initialise the array, run CHKDSK/fsck, or swap drives between slots. Label every disk with its slot number, shut the system down cleanly if you can, and call us on 020 7064 4996. Most unrecoverable RAID cases we see were made worse by a rebuild attempted on the wrong disk.

Free assessment, no obligation. Call 020 7064 4996 or use the form on this page – an engineer will tell you what can be recovered and what it will cost. Book online · Pricing · Locations
