QNAP NAS Data Recovery

QNAP NAS devices are widely used by businesses for file sharing, surveillance and backup. QNAP offers two operating systems: QTS, which uses mdadm RAID, LVM thin provisioning and ext4, and QuTS hero, which is built on ZFS. Each needs a different recovery approach, and we are experienced with both.

Illustration of QNAP-style NAS systems: 2-bay and 4-bay desktop units, an 8-bay tower and rackmount units
From 1-bay home units to 30-bay rackmount systems – we recover data from every QNAP NAS, running QTS or QuTS hero.

QNAP devices have also been targeted by ransomware campaigns such as Qlocker and DeadBolt. If your NAS has been attacked, disconnect it from the network and call us before resetting it.

QNAP Problems We Fix

  • “Storage pool error”, “RAID group not active” or “Unmounted” volumes
  • Thin-provisioned volumes lost after a pool failure
  • ZFS pools that will not import on QuTS hero
  • Drives dropped from the RAID during a rebuild
  • NAS stuck booting or beeping after a firmware update
  • Ransomware-encrypted shares (Qlocker, DeadBolt, eCh0raix and others)

Please Don’t

Do not initialise the NAS, reinstall firmware, or run “Recover” from Storage & Snapshots if disks are failing. Shut the unit down and label the drives by bay.
